When it comes to Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld can do no wrong. His vision for the house of Chanel is classic yet so forward, it is pure perfection! Whenever you think you have figured out Chanel, Mr. Lagerfeld hits you with a bang – or in this case – a bag! I can honestly say that I have never been more excited about a bag than about the Boy. Its androgynous form and style is inspired by the boyish attitude of miss Gabrielle Chanel herself. I must admit that she is somewhat a fashion role model for me. We all know that Gabrielle Chanel was ahead of her time fashion- and lifestyle-wise, however, much more importantly she was true to her own sense of style. She loved luxury but followed a “less is more” philosophy design-wise. A cashmere coat with fur on the inside, a beautiful fine silk dress with a simple straight cut – Coco Chanel was all about elegance and timeless fashion.
The Boy is named after Coco’s great love, Boy Capel, who is known to have inspired her designs more than once. I remember when I first laid my eyes on the Boy bag at the iconic store of Rue Cambon 31 in Paris. The design was so sleek and unique, my heart literally skipped a beat. The moment my hands touched the classic black lambskin Boy I knew that Chanel and I would become great friends.
Since my first Boy shopping experience I was lucky enough to extend my collection. I know that some might find it odd to buy such similar bags but to me they are very distinct and complement my wardrobe in individual ways.
