Review: ghd “Wonderland Edition” Styler

Just in time for Valentine´s day I would like to show you how to create a romantic and soft look with big waves using a ghd styler.

My first ghd styler is now around five or six years old, and it has not once disappointed me (you can read a full review here). But since it is quite wide (I have the salon version), after a few failed attempts, I never really tried to create something else than my usual sleek look.

Well, a few weeks ago ghd was so kind as to send me a new limited edition of their famous styler. The “Wonderland Edition” comes in a set with a convertible heat-resistant styler bag & heat mat, two sectioning clips and a protective plate guard – which is actually all you really need. And since this styler is a lot lighter and smaller than my first one, I thought I´d give it a go and try some waves.

The whole set:

A good heat protection spray is absolutely necessary if you want your hair to survive the constant styling. I discovered ghd´s own product to be very good and highly recommed it (you can buy it here).

On the below image you can clearly see the initial situation: Wild, uneven locks and waves (which I hate btw…), and my hair looks very dry.

Now to the application: To be honest, it is actually quite easy to transform my wild locks into some big waves. Just like I do when I straighten my hair, I use the styler from the top to the end of each strand while slowly gliding through my hair. But whilst in the middle of each stroke, I do a 180° degree twist with both flat iron and hair. I know it may sound a bit complicated, so I recommed you visit ghd´s website for a detailled step-by-step picture guide and some tutorial videos.

And now to the result: My hair feels silky smooth, looks healthy and is very shiny. The curls turned out just the way I wanted them to and finally I have some volume!

Resumé: Since I usually wear my hair straight (as you might have noticed from my outfit posts), a little change is always nice. I love how easy it is to create some soft waves in only a few minutes and with not much work. Ghd´s styler convinces with an effective heat of 185° C that guarantees quick and effective styling in a single stroke (very important if you don´t have much time in the mornings!) and a beautiful design. What I love most about this edition is the convertible bag that is also a heat mat – just perfect for travelling or usage at home!
