Interview with Raynald Lehongre: Common Beauty Mistakes & General Tips!

givenchy-weihnachten-douglas-DSC_8127givenchy-weihnachten-douglas-DSC_8015Last week I met with Raynald Lehongre, international Make-up artist for french beauty brand Guerlain. Being a well known personality himself, I was happy to have had the chance for a small chitchat with Mr. Lehongre and ask him some of the questions my readers had prior given to me.

Dear Monsieur Lehongre, what are the most common mistakes women make in regards to make-up?

There are a few very popular mistakes that I detect. For instance, many women choose the wrong color foundation. Because they want to look tan, they go for a shade that is darker than their actual skin tone. The foundation is very obvious when you do this and you will look immediately older! So, you should only use a foundation that matches your skin and lighten the face. Afterwards, you can still apply some Terracotta-powder to tan and add a touch of sun.
Another frequently made mistake is that a lot of women do not make the difference between transparent powder and compact make-up. As both are in a compact form, they think that compact powder is like a very light powder, when in fact it serves the same purpose as liquid foundation. So when you use a compact powder make-up after you have applied a liquid foundation, your make-up will appear very thick and look fake.
And last but not least, there is the thing with the blush… Many, many women apply their blush way to low on their face. This is so 80s! In my opinion, blush has to be applied directly on the cheekbones-otherwise you risk looking like a clown! And also, just try to take a very natural color, do not go very dark with blushes. If you want to add some volume to your cheeks, you can use some highlighter above the blush, but it all depends on the shape of the face, so there is no general rule.

What are your four Must-have beauty products that every women should carry in her hadbag?

Defintely a good kajal pencil that can also be used as an eyeliner and a Terracotta-powder to add a bit of glow and tan. In addition, every women should have a mascara with her, as well as a nice lipstick. I think that these four products are well enough to create a quick and nice make-up.

I asked my readers if they had any questions for you, and there was one inquiry that came up a few times: How do I transform a daytime look into a nice evening make-up, without dragging along my whole cosmetic case?

Of course, it all depends on what your daytime Make-up looks like. But in general, you could say that you could use some black Kajal eye pencil on the inside of your eyes just to give the eyes a more almond shape. If you like, you can always apply a dark eye shadow on the upper lid and in the corner of your eyes. Another quick way to get a more dramatic appearance is if you use a rich colored lipstick, for instance in red. But don´t forget to to touch up your fondation with a little bit of powder.

Do you have some favorite products from Gurlain?

Definitely! The Terracotta-powder is a must-have for any women, as it can give you the “just out of the sun”-look in a few seconds. It comes in such a wide range of shades and variations of matte or shimmering that everybody can find the perfect Terracotta for themselves. It is very important to choose the right shade and not go too dark! A few years ago there was a horrible trend: People wanted to look tan and dark, and it just made them look old. Nowadays, it is all about underlining your beauty in a natural way and to have a fresh and glowing teint, for instance with powders such as the Météorites pearls and with illuminating foundations.
Another product that I appreciate are the Météorites pearls, they can you give that ravishing, fresh look and even out some redness in your skin. And of the course, the Rouge G lipstick! Not only offers it deep coverage and is long-lasting, but it also has a beautiful design and looks like a little piece of art.

Merci bien for the nice interview, Monsieur Lehongre!

I took the chance to try out some products of Guerlain´s “Crazy Paris” Christmas edition – and I have absolutely fallen for that line! The Météorites pearls (pictured above) come in very bold colors and have a beautiful, deep black packaging.

My favorite product from Guerlain´s Christmas line is the La Petite Robe Noire “So Crazy” powder: It kind of reminds me of fairy dust and smells like the La Petite Robe Noire Perfume! Plus, you can spray some of it into the air and let it fall on your hair for a nice shimmering look!
